Description:

2-Iodobenzonitrile (2-IBN) is a palladium complex that reacts with alkenes in the presence of a base to form an intermediate aryl complex. This intermediate reacts with oxygen to produce the final product, which has been shown to be an inhibitor of cancer cell growth. 2-Iodobenzonitrile is also used as a reactant in organic synthesis reactions, such as the synthesis of benzyl groups. It is an example of tetradentate ligands because it binds to the metal atom with four arms (or bonds). The functional group on the benzene ring determines the reactivity and rate of these reactions. 2-Iodobenzonitrile has two methyl groups and one trifluoromethyl group.
