Product Information

Name:
3-Iodopicolinonitrile
Synonyms:
  • 2-Pyridinecarbonitrile, 3-Iodo-
  • 3-Iodopyridine-2-carbonitrile
Description:

3-Iodopicolinonitrile is a neurotoxin that inhibits the synthesis of neurotransmitters and causes neuronal degeneration. It is used to study the effects of nerve agents on the central nervous system. 3-Iodopicolinonitrile has been shown to cause excitatory responses in rats, including contralateral and ipsilateral turning, as well as spatial disorientation. Injection of this drug into the cochlear nucleus of rats revealed that it produces frequency-dependent changes in the electrical fields recorded from neurones in this region. The maximally effective dose was found to be 10 micrograms per animal.
