Product Information

Name:
(Iodomethyl)benzene
Synonyms:
  • (Iodomethyl)Benzene
  • Benzene, (iodomethyl)-
  • Benzyl iodide
  • Iodophenylmethane
  • Toluene, α-iodo-
  • α-Iodotoluene
Description:

(Iodomethyl)benzene is a benzyl compound that binds to the benzodiazepine receptor, which has been shown to be involved in the neuronal death and hepatitis. The reaction mechanism for (Iodomethyl)benzene is similar to that of other benzodiazepine receptor ligands, with the substitution of an iodine atom for a hydrogen atom on the phenyl ring. The binding of (Iodomethyl)benzene with the receptor leads to inhibition of replication and transcription. It has been shown to inhibit HIV-1 infection in vitro by reducing reverse transcriptase activity, while simultaneously enhancing its susceptibility to protease inhibitors.
(Iodomethyl)benzene
is also synthesized by reacting 6alkyl iodides with aromatic heterocycles such as pyridine or furan. This synthesis can be accomplished through either a one-pot or two-pot sequence that includes a carbonyl transfer reaction,
