Product Information
- Isoquinoline-6-Carbonitrile
- 6-Cyanoisoquinoline
Isoquinoline-6-carbonitrile is an organic compound that belongs to the class of quinolines. Isoquinoline-6-carbonitrile can be synthesized by reacting methanol with trifluoroacetic acid and thionyl chloride, followed by a treatment with sulfuric acid solution. The reaction product is then separated using eluting chromatography, evaporating the solvent and recrystallizing it from ethyl acetate. Aluminum chloride is used as catalyst in this reaction. The synthesis of isoquinoline-6-carbonitrile can also be accomplished by reacting methanol with chloroacetyl chloride in the presence of aluminum chloride, followed by hydrogenation of the intermediate product, which is again followed by a treatment with phosphorus oxychloride or oxychloride. In this method, the compound is purified using extraction and distillation methods.
