Isoxazol-4-amine hydrochloride is a synthetic compound that belongs to the group of isoxazoles. It can be prepared by reacting 2-iodoethanol and nitric acid with ammonium chloride. Isoxazol-4-amine hydrochloride is an intermediate in the synthesis of other compounds, such as ethyl acetate and chlorobenzene. This reagent is used industrially for the manufacture of various organic compounds, including solvents, plastics, pharmaceuticals, dyes, and pesticides. It reacts with palladium metal to form a black precipitate of palladium chloride which can then be filtered off.
Isoxazol-4-amine hydrochloride has also been shown to react with zinc powder to produce zinc nitrate and ammonium chloride as byproducts. The reaction proceeds as follows:
