Indo 1 pentapotassium salt is a fluorescent probe that can be used to measure intracellular Ca2+ levels. Indo 1 pentapotassium salt is a calcium-sensitive, cell-permeant dye that exhibits fluorescence when bound to intracellular Ca2+. Indo 1 pentapotassium salt binds to the Ryanodine receptor in the sarcoplasmic reticulum. The level of fluorescence indicates the concentration of free intracellular Ca2+. This dye has been shown to be useful for measuring changes in cytosolic Ca2+, which are associated with cancer tissues and myocardial infarction.
