Product Information
- Benzaldehyde, 5-Iodo-2-Methoxy-
5-Iodo-2-methoxybenzaldehyde is a chemical compound that has been shown to have antibacterial activity against Mycobacterium smegmatis. It is also an effective inhibitor of the growth of Mycobacterium tuberculosis and other gram-negative bacteria. 5-Iodo-2-methoxybenzaldehyde binds to the bacterial ribosome and inhibits protein synthesis, leading to cell death by inhibiting the production of proteins vital for cell division. This compound has been shown to inhibit the growth of Escherichia coli, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Salmonella typhimurium, and Listeria monocytogenes. 5-Iodo-2-methoxybenzaldehyde is not active against gram positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus or Enterococci.
