The trans-4-isopropylcyclohexane carboxylic acid is a β-pinene that can be used in the industrial production of medicines. It is obtained by the reaction of chloride with methylmagnesium and sulfurous acid. The trans-4-isopropylcyclohexane carboxylic acid has also been used as a reagent to synthesize peptidomimetics and terephthalic acid, which is an intermediate for the production of polyesters. This compound has been found to be environmentally safe because it does not react with chlorine or hydrochloric acid to form toxic compounds. Trans-4-isopropylcyclohexane carboxylic acid is also a salt form, which facilitates its use in organic synthesis.
