4-Iodo-2,6-dimethylaniline is a crystalline solid that is soluble in water and has a sweet odor. It is used as an intermediate in the synthesis of pesticides. 4-Iodo-2,6-dimethylaniline can be synthesized by reacting methyl chloride with iodine chloride. The reaction is catalyzed by peroxidase, which causes the methyl group to be inserted into the anion ring of the iodide. The resulting product can be purified using tosylate ion exchange resin and recrystallized from ethanol or acetone. The molecular weight of 4-iodo-2,6-dimethylaniline is 240.4 g/mol and its average molecular formula is C7H8Cl2N2O I.
The crystal structure of 4-iodo-2,6-dimethylaniline was determined using X-ray diffraction techniques on a microextraction apparatus at 100 K
