Indan-5-carboxylic acid is a carboxylic acid that is the result of oxidation of indan-5-carbaldehyde. It can be synthesized by formylation and oxidation of an aliphatic carboxylic acid. Indan-5-carboxylic acid can also be obtained from natural products, such as the diterpenoid ursolic acid, or it can be synthesized from aldehydes. This molecule has been shown to have antiinflammatory properties in vitro, which may be due to its ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis.
