Iridium(III)chloride is a metal halide that has been used as a catalyst for the synthesis of quinoline derivatives. It is also known to be an electron-deficient species, which is important in electrochemical studies. Iridium (III) chloride can be prepared by dissolving iridium metal in hydrochloric acid and evaporating the solution until all of the water has evaporated. This compound can also be made by reacting picolinic acid with an iridium salt such as ammonium iridium chloride or potassium iridium chloride at room temperature. Iridium (III) chloride has been shown to have health effects on rats, but it is not clear how these effects are related to its toxicity or if they are reversible. Iridium (III) chlorides have been found to have high redox potentials and low kinetic data that make them unsuitable for use in certain reactions. They are often used as catalysts for organic reactions due to their ability to reduce hydrogen
