Description:

5-Isopropylhydantoin is a chemical that can be used in clinical settings. It is an amino acid derivative that is synthesized by the ring-opening of l-amino, aromatic residues. The reaction time for this process may vary depending on the type of carbon source and cell culture used. 5-Isopropylhydantoin has been shown to have immunoaffinity chromatography properties that are useful for purifying proteins from a reaction solution. This chemical also has been shown to inhibit racemase, which can lead to the formation of D-amino acids during protein synthesis. Genetic studies have shown that 5-isopropylhydantoin is produced by the genus Streptomyces.
