2-Iodo-1-indanone is a synthetic compound that has been shown to be activated by UV irradiation. It reacts with hydrogen peroxide and chlorine to produce a reactive oxygen species. This reaction leads to bond cleavage, resulting in the formation of a carbonyl group. 2-Iodo-1-indanone is also highly selective for the stereoselective synthesis of cycloketones. The solid form of this compound has been recycled in an environmentally friendly manner.
