Isobutyrophenone is an organic chemical compound that is synthesized through an asymmetric synthesis reaction. It is a coordination complex with a hydroxyl group and a carbonyl group, which form a light-emitting reaction. Isobutyrophenone's reaction mechanism begins with the nucleophilic attack of the enolate on the benzoate. The molecule then undergoes oxidation to produce an aromatic hydrocarbon, which in turn reacts with the hydroxyl group to form isobutyrophenone. Isobutyrophenone has been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects when used in cell culture experiments. This effect may be due to its ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis by inhibiting cyclooxygenase (COX).
