Iodomethyl-triphenyl-phosphonium iodide is a reagent that is used in organic chemistry to synthesize substituted phenols, substituted thiophenols and substituted benzaldehydes. The reaction is an equimolar mixture of phenyllithium and methylene iodide. This reaction is also known as the "iodomethylation" reaction. If the desired product contains a carbonyl group, then dibutyltin chloride can be added to the reaction mixture. This reagent does not react with aldehydes because it is neutral.
