4-Iodobenzene-1,2-diamine is a structural modification of the amino acid 4-iodo-3-hydroxybenzeneacetamide. It has been used in the study of neurofibrillary tangles in Alzheimer's Disease and isomers that are fluorescent or bind to β-amyloid. The modifications of this amino acid include hydrogenation reduction, modifications, and organic ligands. 4-Iodobenzene-1,2-diamine has also been studied as an interferon free regimen for HIV patients with genotype 1. It binds to the receptor on cells and blocks the uptake of virus particles by inhibiting the fusion process between viral membrane and cell membrane.
