4-(1H-Indol-2-yl)aniline is a ligand that is used in molecular modeling studies for the cox-1 protein. It binds to cox-1, which is an enzyme that metabolizes arachidonic acid and produces prostaglandin H2 (PGH2). 4-(1H-Indol-2-yl)aniline has been synthesized and tested for its affinity for metal ion binding sites on cox-1. 4-(1H-Indol-2-yl)aniline is fluorescent, which allows it to be used in assays to detect the presence of metal ions. 4-(1H-Indol-2-yl)aniline can also be used as a pharmacological tool because it binds very tightly to melatonin receptors, with high affinity.
