Isophthalamide is a polymer that is used in the production of polyurethanes. This polymer is produced by the reaction of sodium citrate with amide, which leads to an intramolecular hydrogen bond between carbonyl and hydroxyl groups. The chlorine atoms are then substituted for iodine atoms in the iodination reaction, leading to the formation of polyisophthalamide. Isophthalamide has been shown to be effective in wastewater treatment because it has high water permeability and low water vapor permeability. It also exhibits good thermal stability and does not react with other compounds such as fatty acids or glomerular filtration rate.
