Indole-4-boronic acid is a fluorescent boronate ester that has been used as a sensor for fluoride. It was synthesized by reacting indole-4-boronic acid with trimethylchlorosilane and tert-butyldimethylsilyl chloride in the presence of sodium carbonate and hydrochloric acid. This chemical compound has yellow color, high yield, and is soluble in organic solvents such as chloroform. The frequency of fluorescence emission can be tuned by changing the solvent pH. Indole-4-boronic acid reacts with d-glucose to produce a fluorescent product, which can be detected using a fluorescence spectroscopy instrument.
