Imidocarb dipropionate is a potent inducers of the liver enzyme cytochrome P450 3A4. It also inhibits the synthesis of protein and increases the production of bile acids. Moreover, imidocarb dipropionate is an antimicrobial agent that has been used to treat infectious diseases such as tuberculosis and leprosy. Imidocarb dipropionate has been shown to inhibit growth in vitro by binding to bacterial DNA polymerase, which blocks transcription and replication. This drug also has an effect on serum bile acid concentrations, glomerular filtration rate, and renal function. Imidocarb dipropionate is metabolized through hydrolysis by esterases or glucuronidases, oxidation by cytochrome P450 enzymes, reduction by glutathione reductase, or conjugation with glucuronic acid.
