Description:

Iodine monochloride is a reactive, diatomic molecule that has been used in the treatment of bowel disease. It is synthesized by reacting iodine with trifluoroacetic acid and hydrochloric acid in the presence of potassium dichromate. Iodine monochloride's mechanism of action is not well understood, but it has been shown to be effective in treating both ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. It may work by either inhibiting the production of inflammatory cytokines or acting as an antiseptic agent. Iodine monochloride also has been shown to reduce the incidence of autoimmune diseases and water vapor in mice treated for one week.
