Idoxifene is a drug that belongs to the class of nonsteroidal anti-estrogens. It is used for the treatment of vaginal atrophy and other symptoms of estrogen deficiency in postmenopausal women. Idoxifene has been shown to have potent antagonist activity against tamoxifen, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the synthesis of both estrogen and testosterone. Idoxifene does not bind to the estrogen receptors, but it blocks tamoxifen from binding and thus prevents the formation of active complexes with DNA. Idoxifene also has been shown to have beneficial effects on liver cells and mouse monoclonal antibodies.
