3-Iodotoluene is a stable, non-polar, organic compound that is a fatty acid. It has been shown to form stable complexes with sodium carbonate, which are used in the Suzuki coupling reaction. 3-Iodotoluene is also an oxygen nucleophile and reacts with picolinic acid to form two kinetic energy products. The reaction of 3-iodotoluene with palladium complexes has been shown to be a solid catalyst for reactions involving fluorine, halides and potassium hexafluorophosphate. The product of this reaction is metastable and can be further reacted by adding potassium hexafluorophosphate as a reagent.
