Indigo Carmine is a dye that is used in wastewater treatment. It has a basic structure and adsorption properties that can be used to remove organic substances from water. Indigo Carmine is also used as a diagnostic agent for the detection of synchronous fluorescence. The dye has been shown to have toxic effects on human serum, but long-term toxicity studies have not been conducted. Indigo Carmine has also been found to react with nuclear DNA and fluorescence probe, although the mechanism by which this happens is not currently understood.
