Isoquinoline-4-carbonitrile is a chemical compound that inhibits the growth of bacteria. It reacts with the hydroxyl group on the antibiotic to form an inorganic reaction product, which can be further hydrolyzed by water. The vinyl ether is converted to an organic solvent, which can be used in the palladium-catalyzed coupling reaction to form a new compound. This new compound reacts with factor receptor and n-dimethyl formamide to produce a sulfoxide, which is then converted into epidermal growth factor. Epidermal growth factor stimulates cells that are involved in cell division and skin repair, such as epidermal cells and fibroblasts. Isoquinoline-4-carbonitrile also has a functional group that may help it bind to proteins and increase its effectiveness against bacteria.
