Description

1H-Imidazole-2-carboxylic acid is a chiral compound that is used as a fluorescence probe for studying hydrogen bonding interactions in human serum. It is also used as a catalyst and an additive in the production of sodium salts. 1H-Imidazole-2-carboxylic acid has been shown to have antihypertensive effects, which may be due to its inhibition of angiotensin II and other vasoactive peptides. This drug has also been shown to be effective in treating chronic bronchitis, an inflammatory disorder of the lungs. 1H-Imidazole-2-carboxylic acid acts as an acid complex with phenoxy groups, forming an organometallic compound with hydrogen bonds. It can act as a proton donor or acceptor, which can lead to intermolecular hydrogen bonding within the cell membrane.
