Description

IsooctadecenyIsuccinic anhydride (ISUA) is a biodegradable and hydrophobic chemical that is used in the production of polyesters. This compound is synthesized by reacting diacetate with octadeceny1-chloride in the presence of a catalyst. The reaction temperature, chloride concentration, and reaction time all affect the yield of ISUA. The reaction product can be determined using fluorescence to measure the intensity of light at different wavelengths. Hydrophobicity can be measured by titration. ISUA is also used as a fluorophore for hydrophobic microemulsions to study the interactions between hydrophobic molecules.
