Ile-Gly-OH is a synthetic amino acid that was synthesized by the reaction of Gly, Ile, and OH. It has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of β-amyloid aggregation and toxicity in vitro. This molecule also inhibits the production of anions such as peroxides, which are generated when oxidizing agents are present. The mechanism by which this molecule inhibits β-amyloid formation is not known, but it has been suggested that it may be due to its ability to act as a nutrient for cells or its ability to inhibit the accumulation of hydrogen ions.
