Product Information

Name:
cis-3-Iodoacrylic acid
Synonyms:
  • (Z)-(3)-Iodoacrylic acid
  • (2Z)-3-iodoprop-2-enoic acid
Description:

Cis-3-Iodoacrylic acid is a synthetic compound with a carbonyl group and terminal alkynes. It is used as an antibacterial agent, which can be used to inhibit the growth of bacteria that are resistant to other antibiotics. Cis-3-Iodoacrylic acid inhibits bacterial growth by binding to the protein synthesis machinery and blocking the formation of peptide bonds. It has been shown to have cytotoxic effects on cancer cells, but not on normal cells. The stereoselectivity of cis-3-iodoacrylic acid may be due to its ability to bind selectively to one side of the ribosome, causing it to stop at a specific point in protein synthesis.
