4-Iodotetrahydro-2H-pyran is a monomer that can be used as an ion source in mass spectrometry. It is prepared by refluxing 4-iodophenol with pyran in the presence of aldehydes or alcohols. This reagent yields various products depending on the reaction conditions. For example, when it reacts with cyclic compounds, such as benzaldehyde and phenylacetaldehyde, it produces aliphatic compounds. The reaction time also affects the product yield; for example, with enol ethers, the reaction time should be at least 2 hours to produce desired products. 4-Iodotetrahydro-2H-pyran can also be used to prepare substances for medical purposes, including antihistamines and antibiotics.
