Description:
3-Iodobenzyl cyanide is a potent inhibitor of 5-lipoxygenase and an analogue of 3-iodo-5,6-dihydrobenzofuran. The inhibitory potency of this compound against 5-lipoxygenase has been determined by the inhibition of the formation of 5,6-epoxyeicosatetraenoic acid (5,6 EET) in rat peritoneal mast cells. This analog can also be used as a starting point for synthesizing analogues with different substituents on the ring.
