3-Iodobenzylamine is a chemical compound that has shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells. 3-Iodobenzylamine inhibits the activity of adenosine A3 receptor, which is a G protein coupled receptor (GPCR) that is found in the central nervous system and peripheral tissues. The selective targeting of this receptor may be useful in diagnosis and treatment of cancer. 3-Iodobenzylamine also has an inhibitory effect on normal cells, but not as strong as on cancer cells. This property may be used to distinguish between healthy and diseased tissue during diagnosis. 3-Iodobenzylamine has shown to cause inhibition of DNA synthesis, cell proliferation, and stimulation of apoptosis in experimental models with human serum at concentrations between 1 nM and 10 µM.
