2-Iodo-4-methylaniline is an activated aromatic amine that can react with a metal ion to form a complex. This reaction produces a fluorescent molecule. 2-Iodo-4-methylaniline has been shown to have an interaction with the tuberculosis bacterium, which may be due to its ability to bind to the mycobacterium's cell wall and inhibit protein synthesis.
