2-Iodo-3-aminopyridine is a chemical compound that has been shown to be involved in the biosynthesis of strictosidine, a precursor to many drugs. 2-Iodo-3-aminopyridine has a hydrophilic property and can be used for analytical purposes. It is monitored by spectroscopic methods. The biological properties of this chemical are still unclear; however, it has been shown to have pharmacophoric similarities with other compounds that have pharmacological activity. The enzyme strictosidine synthase catalyzes the conversion of 2-iodo-3-aminopyridine into strictosidine, which is then converted into other compounds, such as vincamine and catharanthine. This reaction requires oxygen and NADPH as cofactors in order to proceed.
