4-Iodobenzyl alcohol is a chemical compound that has been shown to inhibit the HDAC enzyme. It is able to react with chloride ions and form an iodobenzyl chloride, which is then converted into an iodobenzyl intermediate. This intermediate reacts with ferrocene, forming a covalent bond. The reaction time varies depending on the concentration of 4-iodobenzyl alcohol and the presence of ferrocene. When 4-iodobenzyl alcohol is irradiated with ultraviolet light, it forms nanodots in the presence of ferrocene. These nanodots are monomolecular in size and monoclonal antibody conjugates can be formed by reacting them with antibodies specific for cancer cells.
