Product Information

Name:
1,3-Isobenzofurandione
Description:

1,3-Isobenzofurandione is a reaction product of glycol ether and phenoxy. It has been reported to inhibit the growth of Fusarium oxysporum f., which is an important plant pathogen. 1,3-Isobenzofurandione can be used in wastewater treatment as a bioremediant for chloride and radiation. The spontaneous reaction of 1,3-isobenzofurandione with metal ions such as calcium carbonate produces reactive oxygen species that may contribute to the antimicrobial effect.
1,3-Isobenzofurandione inhibits protein synthesis by reacting with free amino acids and blocking aminoacyl adenylates from binding to ribosomes. This inhibition leads to decreased levels of lipolytic enzymes in fat cells and decreased chloride ion concentrations in wastewater treatment plants.
