Product Information
- 4-Hydroxy-5-iodo-3-methoxybenzoic acid
5-Iodovanillic acid is a vanilloid compound and an intermediate in the biosynthesis of resiniferonol and resiniferatoxin. It is produced by iodination of 5-iodovanillin, which is synthesized by the condensation of homovanillic acid with methoxide. The methylation of 5-iodovanillin produces 5-iodo-3,4-dihydrovanillin, which can be oxidized to the corresponding carboxylic acid. This compound has been shown to be an effective antagonist against the neurotransmitter serotonin.
