Product Information
Ilexsaponin B1 is a saponin that has been repositioned by the pharmaceutical industry for use in medicine. It is extracted from the plant Ilex pubescens and can be found in other plants of the family Aquifoliaceae. Ilexsaponin B1 has been shown to have insulin-sensitizing effects in mice with type 2 diabetes, and it has also been shown to reduce liver lesions caused by acetaminophen toxicity in rats. The chemical structure of ilexsaponin B1 is similar to that of acetylcholine, and this similarity may explain its effects on insulin sensitivity. Ilexsaponin B1 binds to cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterase (PDE), which regulates the production of cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) and cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP). This binding prevents cAMP hydrolysis, an enzyme that breaks down cAMP
