D-Kynurenine is a product of tryptophan metabolism that has been shown to be involved in the development of cancer. It has been shown to inhibit acetylcholine release and cause cell death in rats. D-Kynurenine also acts as a chemoattractant for white blood cells, and it is thought to be involved in the regulation of camp levels. In humans, d-kynurenine is produced by the enzyme quinolinate phosphoribosyltransferase from 3-hydroxyanthranilic acid, which is converted from L-tryptophan by the enzyme indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase. The optimum pH for this reaction is 7.4 and its maximum activity occurs at 37°C. D-Kynurenine may have therapeutic potential for the treatment of acetylcholine deficiency diseases such as Alzheimer's disease or Parkinson's disease due to its ability to increase acetylch
