15-keto travoprost is a prostaglandin derivative that stimulates the growth of hair follicles. It is an isopropyl ester of a 15-hydroxyprostaglandin F2α analog and has stimulatory effects on hair growth. Prostaglandins are substances that stimulate the contraction of smooth muscles, induce inflammation, and influence other cellular functions such as proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis. They are derived from arachidonic acid (AA) by way of cyclooxygenase or lipoxygenase pathways. The prostaglandin PGF2α analogs are known to be potent stimulators of hair regrowth in animals.
