7-Keto-3α,12-α-dihydroxycholanic acid is a lipid molecule that belongs to the class of sodium salts. It has been shown to form stable complexes with biological samples and is useful for sample preparation before analysis. 7-Keto-3α,12-α-dihydroxycholanic acid has been used in studies of hepatic steatosis in rats, which demonstrated statistically significant changes in liver fat content.
