Description:
(S)-Ketorolac is a nonsteroidal, non-selective, synthetic, anti-inflammatory drug that belongs to the group of cox-1 inhibitors. It is used as an analgesic to relieve moderate to severe pain and as an antipyretic to reduce fever. (S)-Ketorolac is also a potent inhibitor of prostaglandin synthesis and therefore has been used in allergic conjunctivitis and postoperative ocular surgery. The enantiomer form of Ketorolac (R) is available for use in humans but not for veterinary use. (S)-Ketorolac exhibits pharmacological activity similar to that of meperidine but with less sedative effect and without narcotic side effects. The pharmacopoeia states that Ketorolac may be administered orally, intramuscularly, or intravenously.
