Product Information
- 12-Oxooctadecanoic acid sodium salt
12-Ketostearic acid sodium salt is a synthetic membrane probe that binds to the hydrophobic regions in lipid bilayer membranes. The binding of 12-ketostearic acid sodium salt to the membrane causes an increase in the permeability of the membrane to small molecules, such as water and ions. This increased permeability is due to a change in the orientation of the probe molecule, which alters its binding affinity for water and ions. The binding site for 12-ketostearic acid sodium salt has been shown to be oriented with one end of the molecule facing into the lipid bilayer, while the other end faces outwards.
