Product Information
Ketolides are a group of antibiotics that bind to specific interactions on the ribosome, preventing the attachment of tRNA to the mRNA. This prevents translation and therefore inhibits protein synthesis. Ketolides are cyclic peptides that have a hydrophobic residue in their center and three amino acid residues on the left and right sides. The interaction between ketolides and ribosomes is highly specific, which is why they do not affect other types of bacteria. This specificity is also related to their conformation: ketolides are only active when they adopt a particular conformation.
