It is a potent, highly selective inhibitor of the ion channel TRPM8 (transient receptor potential melastatin 8). This drug has been shown to have an affinity for other ion channels, such as TRPA1 and TRPV1. TRPM8 is activated by cold temperatures and can be blocked by this drug.
