Product Information
- (Leu¹,Thr²)-Hirudin (desulfated)
- Lepirudin Recombinant
Lepirudin acetate salt is a recombinant heparin that inhibits the activity of thrombin, an enzyme that converts fibrinogen to fibrin. Lepirudin acetate salt binds to thrombin and prevents it from binding to its target sites on the fibrinogen molecule. It is used as an anticoagulant in patients with heparin-induced thrombocytopenia. Lepirudin acetate salt has been shown to be effective against hirudin and lepirudin, which are inhibitors of heparins. The drug also inhibits the formation of polymerase chain reaction products by human polymorphonuclear leukocytes in vitro.
