Substance P is a tachykinin neuropeptide that belongs to the tachykinin family. Substance P is also associated with a number of diseases such as infectious diseases, sciatic nerve pain, and vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) production. This substance has been used for the diagnosis of neurogenic bladder dysfunction by measuring its effects on urinary bladder contractility.
