Leukotriene E4 is a biological molecule that has a low potency, as it is not active at the concentrations found in vivo. Leukotriene E4 has been shown to induce the production of eosinophil cationic protein and polymorphonuclear leucocytes from blood cells. This molecule can also bind to ATP-binding cassette transporter and inhibit its function. Leukotriene E4 has been found to be present in human urine samples, although its concentration is lower than those of other leukotrienes. Leukotriene E4 has been shown to have chemoattractant properties that can cause an increase in the movement of polymorphonuclear leucocytes towards inflamed tissue.
