Laulimalide is a synthetic compound that has shown potential as an anticancer agent. It inhibits the proliferation of cancer cells by binding to the α subunit of protein kinase C (PKCα) and inhibiting the PKC-mediated phosphorylation of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR). Laulimalide also inhibits angiogenesis, which is important for the development of many cancers. Laulimalide has been shown to be effective in treating bowel disease, such as inflammatory bowel disease. Laulimalide binds to the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) and prevents it from binding with its ligand, epidermal growth factor (EGF), thereby blocking EGF signaling. This prevents inflammation and reduces bowel inflammation in animal models.
