Luminol is a chemical compound that binds to DNA and emits light. It can be used for Western Blot and ELISA. Luminol is reactive and can bind to nucleic acids, including dna and rna. Luminol has been shown to be effective in the detection of squamous carcinoma and cervical cancer, with long-term efficacy. The light emission is due to the chemiluminescent reaction of luminol with hydrogen peroxide, which leads to an excited state in the molecule. This excited state decays through a series of reactions that emit light at wavelengths between 400 nm and 500 nm. Luminol also has a high affinity for mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase and the enzyme responsible for energy metabolism in cells (pyruvate dehydrogenase).
